Tishie vs. K-Pop

One of my BFFs posted a link to this video on my wall...

We were both dancers in our past lives, which is part of the reason she shared this vid with me. But here's the thing about my BFF: She is absolutely K-Pop-obsessed. Not entirely something she's proud of, and not something I could understand. Which is one reason I'm reading this book...

I had to read this because, aside from the fact that it's written by a friend of mine, I figured it'd also give me some insight into the dizzying world of K-Pop and why it's got my best friend so hooked. I gotta admit, for a time I felt like I was losing my BFF to all things Korean. I just couldn't...relate. I even confessed to my husband that I felt like BFF and I were drifting apart. But reading this book, I'm realizing that a K-Pop obsession is much more than just singing along to songs you don't understand, watching Koreanovelas with plotlines that have been rehashed over and over again (and yet still remain kilig), and eating Korean takeout while watching a concert DVD. It's about being in the company of like-minded friends, having a judgement-free zone (the way all true friendships are supposed to have), and having a solid support group that shares all your joys and sorrows. If that's what K-Pop is giving my BFF, then I'm all for it.

  1. K-Pop is awesome! Have you tried giving it a try though?

I guess it's like a Twilight, Harry Potter, or Justin Bieber. There's always things we don't understand.

I am a fan of Kpop myself and I find the music quality very high, and especially in the performances compared to American music. But everyone has an opinion right? : )

  2. My sisters are K-pop obsessed! My other sister can probably join a K-pop competition because she knows all of them. Would you believe Bon had a brief K-pop obsession too??? --- well just one group --- the one with a lot of girls. Hahahahaha!

I've seen a few koreanovelas, they're not bad really.

  3. Yey, a dance video. :) let's dance tishie!!! :) i'm sure dancing is still something you and your best friend have in common and since a most dancers don't mind grooving to any beat as long as he or she gets to dance...maybe kpop dancing (if there is such a word) could be your middle ground :)

  4. I'm sure it's great. I haven't given it a try because a) I barely have time to watch anything (I'd rather read when I have free time) and b) knowing my capacity for obsession (e.g., Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Harry Potter), I don't think I should get started!

Crickette, maybe Bon would like this Miss A video. Haha

Roms, BFF and I are actually planning on attending a K-Pop dance class. Sabi ko nga ire-request ko yung "Bad Girl, Good Girl" just for her. Haha

  5. "most dancers don't mind grooving to any beat as long as he or she gets to dance"

True, although there are certain styles na hindi ko keri (e.g., house, stuff with lots of popping and locking)!

  6. I have a friend who is a K-pop addict, but she hasn't tried to share it yet. And I have a sister-in-law who loves everything Bollywood.

One of my dark secrets is that I was a huge Buffy and Angel fan...though I didn't like Buffy as much after her mom left the show.

Oh, so sweet of you to drop a line!:)
